Colin Jackson’s Take: What If They Tried Track?
Jan 12, 2022

Every now and then, the debate pops up again—and I love it. “Which sport has athletes that would smash it in track and field?” Now, I’ll be honest—I’ve never been a fan of the “who’s best?” comparisons. Every sport demands something different. Gymnasts have timing and explosive power. Rugby players have brute strength and insane acceleration. Tennis players—ridiculous foot speed and agility. Footballers? Endurance, vision, coordination.
So no, I’m not here to crown anyone.
But what I do love is imagining what would happen if they stepped onto the track.
What could a 100m sprinter learn from a world-class winger’s change of pace?
How would a decathlete adapt to a boxing-style training camp?
And could a long jumper borrow flight control from the BMX park?
Because that’s the magic of athletics—it’s the raw ingredients of every sport. Power. Precision. Timing. Heart.
It’s not about who’s better. It’s about recognising how the body moves, adapts, and competes. And in that space, I’ll always believe track and field is one of the purest tests of athleticism.
So let’s keep the chat going. Respect all codes. Celebrate all athletes. And dream big about what’s possible when worlds collide.
See you on the track.
